What's up with this site and what is a blog?
Well, if you read the first page, then you know that this site is our own little piece of cyberspace. This blog site will let us share what's going on, and even pictures, with our friends and family. This site is a blog site, which makes it easy to update and maintain by many users. The next logical question, if you don't know already, is 'What is a blog?'
Well, a blog is a series of posts in some order, usually chronological, by one or more people to communicate with others. It is very similar to posting on a message board. A good way of thinking about it is like email. Instead of writing an email and sending it to everyone you know, you make that email available for anyone who wants to see it. One advantage to this is that people who know you can see the email (or post) if you don't have their email address. Posting on a blog is very easy, just like sending an email. You log in, click 'new post', type in a subject, type in the message, attach a file or more if you want, and click post. That's it - your post is now on the internet for all to see.
For visitors, a blog site makes it very easy to keep up with what's going on, and find the info/post you're looking for. To see what someone has to say, click on their blog link near the top of the page and that will take you to their blog. The posts they make will show up in reverse chronological order - newest on top. If you visit often, the next post(s) you want to read will be on top. There is also a post list on the right that will let you go straight to any of the last 20 posts. You can also view posts by their category, by clicking on the category link in the right sidebar. Finally, you can search for words or phrases using the search tool in the sidebar.
A blog site makes it easy to communicate with the bloggers, as well. First, you can comment on posts. If you think a post is funny, have a question about a post, or have any other comment you'd like to make about a post, you can leave it by clicking on the 'leave a comment' link under that post. The blogger will be able to read the comment and, if they choose to, make it available for any visitor to see along with the post. You can also email the blogger using the site, by clicking on the contact link at the top of their blog.
